With the proliferation of restaurants, bars and clubs within Johannesburg, nothing comes close to Buddha Ta. Buddha Ta offers the complete package for the young and trendy as it is a restaurant, cocktail lounge, bar and club in Fourways. The past Sunday I went there for lunch. It was my first time in this upmarket venue and I was extremely impressed.
The service was amazing! The moment I came into the door, I was greeted with huge smiles from their friendly waiters. The waiter even cracked a joke!
Since we went early for lunch the place was not that full, so we could choose where we wanted to sit. Buddha Ta has two mezzanine areas, lounge area (with comfy couches), four bars, restaurant area and outside seating. Another bonus of this place is that it offers free Wi-Fi! I chose to sit in the restaurant area.
I was overwhelmed by the Asian inspired décor especially the giant Buddha statue. The décor is stylish with deep wooden finishes. I liked the red chandeliers, lanterns and the smaller Buddha statues which were scattered around the venue.
My first impressions of the club was excellent so I could not wait to order food. The prices of the food and beverages (including alcohol) are reasonable and in line with other restaurants, bars and clubs within the city. The menu consisted of the following:
Tapas (R140 – R260)
Starters - R65 – R85 (includes beef carpaccio, chicken livers and salmon tarte to name a few)
Salads – R60 – R70 (When I go back I am going to try the grilled chicken, mango and rocket)
Mains – R80 – R140 (includes grilled health chicken breast, salmon fish cakes, chicken parmesan, sirloin steak and so many other delicious options)
Asian Specialities R70 – R80
Deserts R50 – R55.
I ordered the Xia Xia tapas (R140) as it was great for sharing. The plate consisted of: Mediterranean Cous Cous, Greek Salad, Vegetarian Spring Roll, Homemade Potato Crisps, Zucchini fritters, Falafel Balls, Jalepeno Poppers, Toasted Ciabatta, Pita Breads, Dill Yogurt, Chimichurri Dip and Sweet Chilli Sauce. The food smelled delicious and it was yummy! For dessert I ordered the New York Baked Cheese Cake (R55).
I also enjoyed the music that they played whilst enjoying my lunch. So I am definitely going back to their nightclub which is open on a Friday and Saturday from 23:00 to 02:30.Buddha Ta is definitely a great venue for a fashionable lunch and night out!
