Overcome by environmental
elements and an ominous mood-inducing energy, frostbitten models walked the
runway with a bold chill, donning the first ever FENTY PUMA BY RIHANNA
Collection. Just like the collection’s namesake creative director, the first
season driven by Rihanna is nothing short of unexpected with a full collection
of footwear, apparel and accessories for both women and men.
Rihanna drew
inspiration from today’s Japanese street culture and tradition for this first
full season collection since partnering with PUMA in December 2014. Mixing that
cultural influence with gothic overtones and exaggerated volumes and
proportions, the fashion icon challenged the traditional male and female
silhouettes and blurred the lines between genders that are often times too rigid
for her fashion tastes.
Rihanna
introduced styles such as a ground-sweeping Kimono Robe, Tear Away Tricot Track
Suits, an attitude punched Lace-Up Jersey Corset, dresses and bodysuits. In her
first collection, she played with shapes creating exaggerated long sleeve tops
and jackets and voluminous hoodies and crew necks. Many apparel silhouettes play with laces,
running up and down the pieces for an added edge. Outerwear styles, like the
Velvet Bomber Jacket, serve both the fashion hungry and the function-needy.
Each piece embodies a sexiness with a tough-as-nails attitude.
“This
collection is not only a representation of who I am and how I dress, but also
pushes the boundaries of what I wanted to create with PUMA” said PUMA Brand
Ambassador and Women’s Creative Director Rihanna, “I wanted to take PUMA to a new place
with something unpredictable and unexpected. It's Japanese street
culture with a haunting twist. I played with texture and silhouettes and all of
the fabrics are luxurious. I reinterpreted the traditional in my way. I'm
looking forward to sharing the collection with the fashion community and fans.”
A PUMA
collection is never complete without footwear. As a follow up to her beloved
PUMA Creeper launch, the AW16 collection ranges from show-stomping boots to
sporty heels to training sneakers. An exaggerated over-the-knee Eskiva boot
laced up on some of fashion’s top models turned heads on the runway.
The
footwear styles that was shown will be available soon. Rihanna’s first official
modern and futuristic training shoe, the FENTY Trainer will hit PUMA SELECT in
Cape Town, Bree Street and Johannesburg, Braamfontein, as well as X–Trend on 26
February 2016. Rihanna’s anxiously anticipated Fur Slide will launch in April
and the infamous PUMA Creeper returns in May with new colors.
The PUMA by
Rihanna Accessories range features an over-the-top Bomber Jacket Bag, the Fur
Waistbag fit with two pockets for you and your boo and fashionable durags, caps
and headwear, chokers and veiled sweatband all to perfect the look.
The
AW16 PUMA by RIHANNA collection, under her FENTY label, includes a mix of
fashion and lifestyle apparel, footwear and accessories and will be available
at retail beginning September 2016.
For Autumn/Winter 2016, Kanye West returned to present YEEZY
SEASON 3 in the most epic way imaginable: an exclusive presentation at New
York's Madison Square Garden including the global debut of his highly
anticipated new album and a performance by renowned contemporary artist Vanessa
Beecroft. Presented during New York Fashion Week on February 11, 2016, the
collection featured a sneak preview of footwear innovations to come from West
and adidas in the year ahead.
NMD
The YEEZY SEASON 3 presentation's main cast unveiled an updated
version of the YEEZY BOOST 350 and a brand-new 1050 boot. Both models utilizing
the latest in adidas Boost technology, in which blown EVA pellets are
compressed to create a durable, shock-resistant, responsive sole. A cast of
almost 1000 extras, meanwhile, wore iconic adidas styles such as the Tubular,
NMD, Gazelle, Stan Smith, and the Superstar. All models exclusively wore
apparel from West's own line YEEZY SEASON 3, and he also included select pieces
of his own YEEZY SEASON 3 footwear and accessories.
PUMA
introduces the Blaze, which draws on years of sporting heritage but with an evolved
construction for a sleeker, street-ready lifestyle sneaker.
The sneaker is inspired by the storied Blaze of Glory, which hit
the ground running in the ‘90s, fully harnessed with PUMA’s trademark Trinomic
technology and material play of plush and plastic. Now re-imagined, the new
Blaze is a future icon.
Some elements give a throwback to the original style, from the
heel loop to the well-cushioned Trinomic outsole. But it’s the contemporary
feel that comes through strong with a cleaner vamp construction, streamlined
eye-stays, light upper materials and bold branding.
Styles to look out for this season are the unisex Blaze in white
for R1299, as well as the Blaze Filtered Women’s in peacoat and desert-flower
for R1199. There are also unisex options available - the Blaze in peacoat and
drizzle for R1299, as well as the textured Blaze CRFTD in black-limestone gray
and peacoat-oatmeal for R1599.
The
PUMA Blaze is currently available at PUMA stores and
selected sneaker retailers nationwide.
PUMA will be
dropping a ‘His & Hers’ Valentine’s Day pack, consisting of the PUMA Suede
and Basket, for all the couples to pair up on and match their outfits (how
cute?).
Since
their birth in the late ‘60s, the Suede and Basket have seen many cultural
milestones in sneaker history, not to mention been part of many people’s love
stories and happy endings. This year’s Valentine’s Day offering presents the
two icons in irresistible iterations sure to melt one’s heart.
The
Valentine’s Day ‘His’ Suede features an all-over black perforated upper made
from premium nubuck leather. A blush pink formstrip and light midsole completes
the look.
The
Valentine’s Day ‘Her’ Basket features soft perforated leather in light grey
combined with a matching blush pink formstrip to the men’s. A dark midsole creates
a cool contrast to the upper. For a sweet touch, both sneakers include a His +
Hers badge on the tongue.
Both
shoes will be available from select PUMA stores and lifestyle retailers from
12 February. Unfortunately, the sneakers won’t be available in South Africa,
finding it will be worth the effort!!!
PUMA collaborated with ALIFE on another dope collection of apparel and
footwear which comes in two parts - the first inspired by soccer and the second
by the brand’s New York heritage.
Hustling and
designing from their shop on the Lower East Side, the ALIFE crew will tell you
how sports have had a long-lasting influence on the way they live and create
street wear. The latest PUMA x ALIFE collection is built upon this passion and
knowledge.
The first
part takes inspiration from soccer, featuring the No.1 PUMA Archive logo and
ALIFE’s 158 print - the player’s number representing the address of their shop
at 158 Rivington Street. It includes the ALIFE soccer jersey tee (R899) with a double
knit, wicking-finish and dry cell technology, providing a sportswear feel.
ALIFE’s
passion for their city is embodied in the second part of the collection, inspired
by the “Welcome to Fear City” pamphlets of 1975. Items include the Olympic Track
Savannah jacket (R2799) and pants (R2199), Olympic Logo tee (R599) and Olympic
Running tee (R699), emblazoned with the pamphlet’s text and logo.
Footwear in
the PUMA x ALIFE collection sees the bustling atmosphere of New York’s streets
come to life in the Blaze of Glory x ALIFE (R1999), with a sprayed speckle
Trinomic tooling design executed in neoprene and nubuck leather. The collection
also extends to the classic R698 silhouette (R1999) in two different models -
one constructed from soft suede, embroidery and nubuck leather, while the
second is black on black.
PUMA x ALIFE
can be found at PUMA SELECT stores in Bree Street, Cape Town and Braamfontein,
Johannesburg, as well as Shelflife, X–Trend and Madaiza from 13 February 2016.
