Introducing The Velvet Twin Pack by PUMA x Crossover Store

PUMA collaborated with the Crossover store, Malaysia’s premiere sneaker source, for a luscious pack dubbed ,”The Velvet Twin Pack” featuring the iconic Blaze of Glory and Disc Blaze. Aptly named 'Roses' and 'Mystery', the sneaker pack takes cues from the dark and satirical drama of films loved by Crossover founder, Jem.
The Velvet Pack Blaze of Glory ‘Rose’ reinterprets the Trinomic icon with a full tonal grey treatment on mesh upper placed under nubuck and leather material with speckled cage on the overlay. The touch of pink on the tongue, lace and sole represents Crossover's signature colours while the sky blue tint adds a touch of freshness to the insole and around the tongue. An elegant rose stencil print on the heel finishes off the design.
The Velvet Pack Disc Blaze 'Mystery' features a see-through Disc cap on a pitch black upper constructed of mesh, nubuck and suede. The white speckled black cage symbolizes the faint goodness that’s oftentimes found in every suspense dramas’ antagonistic character. A shot of pink on the heel tab symbolises the unpredictable behaviour of devious characters found in these type of films.
The Blaze of Glory ‘Rose’ and Disc Blaze ‘Mystery’ drops exclusively through PUMA SELECT stores in Braamfontein, Johannesburg and Bree Street, Cape Town on 23 April and 15 May for R2 499.

#CareerAdvice: So you want to work in fashion? Tips for aspiring fashion designers

Heart & Heritage Spring/Summer16, SAFW

Are you dreaming of showing off your clothing at a major Fashion Week? If yes, read these fashion designer tips, you are going to be well on your way to making your fashion dreams come true.

Work hard

‘Be prepared to work very hard, learn from criticism but don’t let it defeat you, make friends with your customers and network within the industry to learn about available opportunities and then be brave and go for them with 100% effort.- Lesley Whitter, Heart & Heritage

Learn the Business of Fashion

‘Business skills are as essential as a great design. Being a fashion designer is the rawest form of entrepreneurship. Not only are you creating a garment from a sketch you also need to then sell it. Do a business course, read business books and do not be afraid of failing. As long as you learning from your mistakes you are growing. If you really want to be a fashion designer embrace the lessons and you will only get better. Remember no one said it’s going to be easy!’ GreerKyle

Start Selling

‘Get out there and start selling on any platform possible! Try, fail, adapt and try again. There is no quick fix in fashion it's a long haul. It's definitely not glamorous but if you can make it through the dirt road and pay your dues, I speak from experience - it can work and it's so worth it!’ – Melissa Somerset, Somerset Jane

Network

‘Get to know people in the industry and make connections, become familiar. You never know when you might need a favour, or you could get involved in a cool collaboration!’ James Barrett-Poulsen, LUMIN

Introducing the PUMA x SWASH London collection

PUMA collaborated with print and fashion house SWASH London, which is renowned for its hand-drawn and painted digital prints.

SWASH duo Sarah Swash and Toshio Yamanaka have injected bold and whimsical prints into some of PUMA’s most iconic styles for this basketball inspired collection, which is based on “things lost and found” including skeletons, antique jewellery and other hidden treasures.

While the new collection delves deep into the unexpected, the styles remain streetwear-ready and true to both brands - the blending of premium prints, cutting edge tech and handcrafted designs with classic PUMA styles, perfectly represents both brands’ unique DNA.

The PUMA x SWASH footwear illustrates the inspiration behind the collection thanks to the bold application of prints to some of PUMA’s most classic shoes. The Blaze of Glory (R2 299), originally known for its athletic construction demonstrates a playful and artistic theme in all over SWASH Ossuary design paired with a mellow, soft leather strike.

While the States Mid (R2 999) features SWASH Samovar, a unique hand drawn and painted design featuring bold and lavish, intricate patterns with an upper constructed from rich leather. Finally, the States (R2 699) has been given an equally bold SWASH treatment with an embellished Toucan design in jewel colour print.

The apparel builds on the basketball theme with the unisex Varsity Jacket (R10 999) featuring soft lambskin sleeves, side pockets and custom badges and the eye-catching Samovar print runs true to SWASH’s design ethos. The unisex Basketball Tank (R899) has an allover Samovar pattern and loose fit for a true basketball feel.

The collection can be found at PUMA SELECT Cape Town, Bree Street and PUMA Select Johannesburg, Braamfontein and Madaiza  from 8 April 2016.
